Bumrah Out Varun Chakravarthy In: Team India’s Squad for Upcoming ODI Series

Team India Squad Update for ODI series against England

For the upcoming ODI series against England, team India has made significant changes to their squad. With Veterans Rohit and Kohli coming in, to Bumrah being rested for the ODI Series. Let’s look at, Team India squad update for the ODI series against England.

A Deserved Inclusion

Varun Chakravarthy the star peformer and the player of the series against the English side in the earlier 5-match T20I series, has been included in the squad for ODI series in the ongoing England Tour of India 2025. Varun has already traveled with the squad to Nagpur ahead of the first ODI, and trained on Tuesday before Thursday’s series opener.

He was the top wicket-taker in India’s 4-1 T20I series win, claiming 14 wickets at an average of 9.86. Although being uncapped in ODIs, Varun has played just 23 List A games but impressed with 18 wickets in this season’s Vijay Hazare Trophy. His inclusion adds depth to India’s spin attack alongside Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja.

With his inclusion, Bumrah has been rested of the whole series. If Varun can perform accordingly and be a team player, he could set his sights on his place in the Champions Trophy squad as well.

How the Rest of the Squad Lines up

India’s ODI series against England is going to be their first ODI since August, and it will be crucial ahead of the Champions Trophy. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli need to regain their ODI form. The wicketkeeper role remains a toss-up between KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant.

Ravindra Jadeja’s inclusion adds complexity to the spin department, competing with Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, and Washington Sundar. However, India’s pace attack faces injury concerns, with Jasprit Bumrah sidelined and Mohammed Shami returning from long layoffs, this could put immense pressure on Arshdeep Singh making fitness a key issue ahead of the Champions Trophy.
