Opting to bat, England’s top order laid a solid foundation as their openers put on an 81-run stand in just 10.5 overs, setting the tone for an imposing total.

Ben Duckett led the charge with a fluent 65, while Joe Root’s composed 69 ensured the momentum carried through the middle overs. Harry Brook chipped in with a valuable 31, keeping the scoreboard ticking at an above-par rate.

At 248 for 4, England looked well on course for a big total, but Root’s dismissal momentarily halted their progress.

However, Liam Livingstone played a crucial role in the final few overs, scoring a quickfire 41 off 32 balls. His aggressive stroke play, combined with Adil Rashid’s late flourish of 14 runs off just five deliveries, pushed England past the 300-run mark.

Ravindra Jadeja starred with the ball for India, as he claimed three wickets by giving only 35 in ten overs.

India, in reply, off to a flying start, thanks to Rohit Sharma, who completed his half-century in just 30 balls and also surpassed Chris Gayle to become the second highest six-hitter in ODI history.

He was at 331 alongside Gayle before the start of the game, but he did not take much time to overtake, as he struck a six with a flick shot against Gus Atkinson in the second of the run-chase.

His partner Shubman Gill steadily completed his second successive fifty in the series and was looking in good touch before a yorker from Gus Atkinson ended his innings at 60. There were high expectations from Virat Kohli, but he got out on 5.

Sharma, on the other hand, continued to smash the ball all around the park and completed his 32nd ODI hundred in only 76 deliveries. His knock was ended on 119 when India required 85 off 122 with seven wickets in hand.

Shreyas Iyer played a knock of 44 before getting run-out, while Axar Patel remained unbeaten in the process at 41*, India secured to a convincing 4-wicket win.
