England were ruthless in their opening game against the defending champions, West Indies. They clearly seemed to have buried the ghosts of 2016 final. England employed a brilliant strategy to choke the opposition well upfront. They went in with Moeen Ali to counter the left-handers in the lineup. Once they broke open their top-order, England attacked with wrist spin.
They continued their good show in the 2nd game too. It was their bowling that won them the game once again. England picked up 3 wickets inside the powerplay to leave Bangladesh reeling. They were impressive with the bat too as Jason Roy plundered the bowling to all corners. England haven’t really been tested yet. Their stiffest challenge up until now will be against their arch-rivals, Australia.
Australia will look to take the favourites tag with a 3rd consecutive win:
Australia put in a clinical performance against South Africa in their opening game. Their lower middle order bailed them out of a tricky run chase. But it was their bowlers though who set up the victory in the first place. They stuck to hard lengths and played their matchups to perfection. Australia continued their domination with the ball in the game against Sri Lanka.
Mitchell Starc’s sheer pace and Adam Zampa’s guile proved too much for the Lankans in the end. But what Australia would be most delighted with will be the return to the form of David Warner. He looked to be back to his brilliant best. If Aaron Finch and Warner get going, things will heat up in this group of death.
