Doesn’t Want ‘characters’ like Sharjeel Khan : Ramiz Raja

Pakistan’s opening batsmen Sharjeel Khan was found guilty of spot-fixing during the Pakistan Super League in 2017. So, the Pakistan Cricket Board(PCB) has given him five years of the ban for the guilt. But later on, the PCB Anti-Corruption Tribunal had reduced the suspension period to 30 months.

Sharjeel Khan has requested PCB to alleviate his punishment and also allow him to play cricket. Upon his request, one of the PCB officials admitted that he will be allowed to be the part of tournaments only if he admits to his involvement in the spot-fixing and apologizes for the guilt. Moreover, a lot of news has been circulating on social media about his comeback.

The miserable performance of Fakhar Zaman in the ICC World Cup – 2019 has further made fans to think about Sharjeel’s comeback. Pakistan’s former batsman Ramiz Raja is strongly opposing the comeback of Sharjeel Khan.

He was saying that Sharjeel Khan shouldn’t be given a second chance to come back. He was also saying that there should be zero tolerance for ‘characters’ like Sharjeel Khan, who sell the reputation of the country. He suggests Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq be the current opening pair for the limited-overs cricket.

“I am really disappointed because have we not found any batsmen in the past two, three years, [and] we are bound to approach such characters [Sharjeel Khan] that tainted Pakistan cricket,” – Ramiz Raja said.

“How can society tolerate such a debate? These men don’t even learn from their mistakes and there is a trail of such absurdities giving a bad name to Pakistan. We should have zero tolerance on these things, and we will get the talent. In a year or so, our opening pair that is already doing well will get even better,” – Ramiz Raja added.
