DC Gets Back On Track As Warner, Powell Starred With Bat Against SRH

DC vs SRH Highlights: Delhi Capitals played Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 50th fixture of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Owing to David Warner’s spectacular performance versus his former team, Delhi hammered Hyderabad by 21 runs, as SRH experienced three consecutive defeats.

Following the toss, SRH captain Kane Williamson ordered Delhi to bat first, they got off to a slow start, losing opener Mandeep Singh for a golden duck, wherein Bhuvneshwar Kumar got the first breakthrough for his side. However, after losing his opening partner, Warner remained tough; but, Mitchell Marsh failed to add much support, surrendering his wicket to Sean Abbott after getting 10 (7).

DC skipper Rishabh Pant entered the crease on a strong note, blasting an explosive quickfire knock of 16 ball- 26 runs, featuring three sixes and 4 fours, but was bowled by Shreyas Gopal.

Warner supervised the DC innings with much-needed assistance from Rovman Powell. Warner and SRH had a troubled relationship last year, and the lefty didn’t want to miss out on making a statement against his former team.

Hence Proved: ‘Player Of The Match’ – David Warner

David Warner did hit 90 runs, but he was refused the potential to advance three figures, which would have been his 5th in the IPL since the penultimate over was given entirely by Rovman. For the 4th wicket, Warner and Powell produced an undefeated 122-run partnership. DC reached 207/3 in their allocated 20 overs as Warner kept undefeated on 92 runs from 58 deliveries and Rovman Powell was also unbeaten on 35-ball 67.

Warner might not be able to accomplish a well-deserved hundred, but his blazing knock has been enough to lead the Capitals to register a total of more than 200, which appeared impossible throughout the first half of the innings. By displaying a bold intent, he surged in the middle and slog overs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar of the SRH bowling team bowled a fantastic stint that included a maiden over and a wicket. Umran Malik went wicketless in this match but set a new speed record of 157 kmph. With one wicket apiece, Abbott and Shreyas Gopal proved costly in restricting the runs.

SRH’s top order yet again failed to post a good score in pursuit of the lofty aim, losing openers Abhishek Sharma 7(6) and Kane Williamson 4(11) during the power play. After reaching 22 (18), Rahul Tripathi attempted to keep the innings close with a useful effort but fell short against Mitchell Marsh. Only the batsmen for SRH, Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran, performed impressively in the middle overs.

With a 60-run partnership, the duo preserved Hyderabad’s hopes alive to some point. However, Delhi Capitals dominated the show from all areas, as SRH lost well-established batsmen Markram 42 (25) and Nicholas Pooran 62 (34), putting the match out of reach. The batters then after were unable to generate momentum in pursuit of the elevated objective.

Khaleel Ahmed’s 3-wicket haul and Shardul Thakur’s two-wicket haul for DC. SRH was finally limited to 186/8, losing the game by 21 runs.
