Danushka Gunathilaka gets bail after 11 days in jail, pays Rs 1 crore as surety in Sydney court 

Danushka Gunathilaka: Sydney, November 17: On Thursday as a Sydney court heard Danushka Gunathilaka’s second plea. He gets bail after serving 11 days in jail. After, arrest f with 4 counts of sexual assault and harassment.

Gunathilaka appeared in his prison dress in the court and sought bail after a friend of his agreed to pay the surety of around AUD 20000 (Approximately Rs 1 crore). The court has granted him bail on rigorous conditions as he will not t be able to access his social media or dating app accounts while out in the city. Gunathilaka will also not be able to leave Australia as his passport was surrendered.

The Sri Lankan cricketer was ordered released by magistrate Janet Wahlquist. Nothing, she said, “would lead me to believe that if he is granted bail. He himself is likely to further imperil the victim.” The judge declared, “There would be a significant incentive for him on many levels to comply with this bail and not leave the country.

Gunathilaka is in custody from November 6th in Australia. As his team prepared to return to Colombo after exiting from the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

What was the Complaint, the woman clearly states: 

The cricketer chokes the women three times during the sexual assault.

“The complainant tried to remove the accused’s hand by grabbing his wrist. But the accused squeezed tighter around her neck,” Sydney Police.

“The complainant was fearing for her life and could not get away from the accused. She continually tried to pull away from the accused, a clear indication that she was not consenting.”

The case’s next hearing is schedules for January 12. Gunathilaka facing suspension from all forms of the game by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). Also, strongly condemns the event.

The Sri Lanka Cricket Committee  

The SLC is ashamed of this incident. Also bans the cricketer from all the formats. This cricketer is not away from the controversies. As he represented SLC for 47 ODIs and 46 T20Is.

In 2021 he faced was suspension by the SLC for one year. After he did not follow the terms and conditions of the bio bubble scheme during the tour of England. Even Though it is not enough for him to defame the country’s name as he is an international cricketer. Gunathilaka faces suspension for the case was of a Norwegian woman in 2021.

The board punished him for six limited overs contests. After learning that Gunathilaka was skipping workouts and showing up for a game without his cricket kit in 2017.
