Dale Steyn Discusses His Captaincy Pick For RCB After Kohli

Former South African pacer Dale Steyn hopes KL Rahul to take over as captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore after captain Virat Kohli quits next year. Kohli recently declared his intention to step down as RCB captain at the end of the 2021 season of the league, only 3 days after declaring his intention to step down as India’s T20I captain after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup. Here is all about Dale Steyn Discusses About RCB Captain After Kohli.

Dale Steyn Discusses About RCB Captain After Kohli

Dale Steyn, who played for RCB in the IPL between 2008 to 2010 before returning in 2019-20, feels that  RCB must bring KL Rahul back KL Rahul, who presently leads Punjab Kings, into next year’s mega-auction. Interestingly, Rahul played for RCB twice, first in 2013 and then again in 2016-18.

KL Rahul is going to return back to Bangalore in next year’s auction: Steyn

In a discussion before RCB’s clash versus Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians, Steyn said: “If RCB are going to look at a long-term contender as captain, they should be looking within their own borders. The name I’ve got is an ex-Bangalore player. It’s KL Rahul. I just have a feeling he is going to return back to Bangalore in next year’s auction.”

Steyn noted that RCB must look over AB de Villiers because, while he is a fantastic player, he is towards the end of his career and would not be capable of leading the franchise for much longer.

“I don’t think AB de Villiers is the right way to go. I think he is a phenomenal player. But he is at the end of his career. I think he is a great leader. But if RCB are going to look at a long-term contender as captain, they should be looking within their own borders. It’s KL Rahul. Steyn said.

Sanjay Manjrekar, Steyn’s co-panelist, had similar feelings about AB de Villiers, though his pick for RCB captaincy varied from Steyn’s.

“How many years could you get out of AB de Villiers as the captain? So, I would like to have someone who has at least three years to offer. Pollard is one guy who has the leadership qualities. Suryakumar Yadav and David Warner are my three contenders,” Manjrekar stated.
