Commonwealth Games 2022: Indian Women’s cricket team aim gold medal at CWG 2022

CWG 2022 final: India Vs Australia

Indian women’s cricket team created history on Saturday after defeating England in the semi-final match of the commonwealth games 2022 cricket competition to book the berth for the final in their first-ever commonwealth outing.

The After winning three straight games in the competition, the Harmanpreet-led team is now looking to end the event on a historic high by winning the gold medal when they take the field on Sunday to play the mighty Australian team.

India had only lost single game in the tournament which was against Australia itself. The Aussies defeated the Indian side in the opening match of the marquee event by 3 wickets and reached the finals without losing any game in between.

India, on the other hand, after facing defeat in the first game bounced back strongly and edged past Pakistan and Barbados in group games, while they shocked England in the semis.

Although, Australia will be a tough competent to face as they had already witnessed, and a lot will then depend on Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma opening stand, if they managed to provide a strong start then it will an interesting battle to watch.

Both are in good form, especially vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, who was the star of semi-final match against England in which she scored 61 off 31 and helped her side set a solid target.

She anyways right now the highest run-scorer in the competition with 153 runs in 4 games at a strike rate of 156.12. Jemimah Rodrigues, who given the opportunity to bat at no.3 is doing her job perfectly and has played some good knocks in recent games.

Indian bowlers have to tight their laces to restrict the strong batting line up of Australia. And apart from Renuka Singh, who is in beast mode in this competition, taking 9 wickets in 4 games and right the highest wicket taker, all other bowlers need to charge ahead.

During their last meet Renuka broke the back of team Australia by dismissing 4 batters but due to lack of support from other end, Australia win the match by 7 wickets.

The final match of the commonwealth games cricket competition will start at 9:30 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
