Chennai Super Kings defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 12 runs on Monday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, marking the team’s first win in the 16th Indian Premier League. Moeen Ali shone with the ball for his team and claimed a four-wicket haul.

Even though Chennai Super Kings slowed down after the 10th over, they still managed to score a staggering 217/7 in their 20 overs. MS Dhoni came out and smashed two back-to-back sixes, much to the joy of the CSK supporters in their first game at the Chepauk since 2019.

LSG were looking in full control of the game after crossing 75-run mark inside the powerplay with 10 wickets in hand. But a four-wicket haul spell then by Moeen Ali brought CSK back in game and his side claimed a victory at the end.

KL Lucknow Super Giant got off to a shaky start with the ball after Rahul won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Ruturaj Gaikwad led the way as Chennai Super Kings fully capitalised on it. Gaikwad and opening partner Devon Conway scored 79 runs during the powerplay, which is a record for CSK at the Chepauk in the IPL.

Conway was on 47 off 29 when the Kiwi lost his wicket, and Ruturaj finally fell for 57 off 31 balls.

After that, CSK’s scoring rate slightly decreased as Shivam Mavi and Moeen Ali had trouble getting moving. However, the duo ultimately succeeded in their big shots, which led to their dismissal.

The other players made brief appearances as well, with Rayudu’s unbeaten 27 off 14 being particularly noteworthy before Dhoni hit two sixes off two of the three balls, he encountered to reach the 5000 IPL run mark.

Dhoni became the fifth player from India to achieve 5,000 runs, joining Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Suresh Raina. The skipper of CSK achieved the feat with back-to-back sixes off Mark Wood in the 20th over.

Ravi Bishnoi and Mark Wood took 3-3 wickets each for LSG.

CSK vs LSG Highlights: LSG to chase 218 in 20 overs

Chasing a target of 218, Lucknow off to a magnificent start, as CSK bowlers looked clueless in front of Kyle Mayers, who was smashing almost every ball for boundary.

He was looking unstoppable and in no time completed his second consecutive fifty in just 21 balls.

LSG reached the 73-run mark in just 5 overs, and then MSD called Moeen Ali to bowl and he did the work for his captain, as he got rid off the dangerous Mayers.

The left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner then holds the momentum in the next over and gave just 2 runs and also took a wicket of Deepak Hooda.

The duo didn’t stop there, as Santner from one end gripped the run-chase, while Moeen Ali grabbed 4 wickets in his spell.

LSG lost its fifth wickets at a score of 130 in 13.2 overs, while Pooran who was looking in good touch walked back after scoring 32 off 18.

Other batters tried their best but the side fell short by 12 runs to hand CSK their first win of the tournament this season.

Moeen Ali grabbed 4 wickets for CSK while giving 26 runs in 4 overs. Tushar Deshpande took 2 wickets, while Mitchell Santner bagged a wicket too.
