The 15-member squad for the next two-match Test Series in Zimbabwe, which begins on February 4. Cricket West Indies (CWI) Men’s Selection Panel today revealed the full squad for the Zimbabwe tour.

Shannon Gabriel, a seasoned fast bowler, and the left-arm spinners Gudakesh Motie and Jomel Warrican were all recalled by the selection committee.

Last Time when both West Indies and Zimbabwe faced each other in a test match

At Queens Sports Club in October 2017, Zimbabwe and the West Indies played their last Test Series. The first match of the two-match series was won by West Indies by 117 runs, and the second Test ended in a tie.

It ended and resulted in West Indies winning the series in 2017. This time, it will be interesting to observe if history repeats itself or if the Zimbabwean side adds a new chapter to the annals of history.

Where did Shannon Gabriel Go until now?

The last time Gabriel, played for the Test team was in Sri Lanka in November 2021. After suffering a hamstring injury, he missed the West Indies Test tour of Australia and spent much of last year attempting to get healthy again.

He played for Yorkshire in county cricket for a while and finished tied for the tournament’s most wickets. However, Jayden Seales’ recovery from knee surgery means that Gabriel might join Jason Holder and Kemar Roach in the seam attack for the West Indies tour of Zimbabwe.

Selectors Comments after the Squad Announcement

“This is the start of the international calendar for 2023 and we will hope to start with a win.” stated lead selector Dr Desmond Haynes. “We appreciate it won’t be as easy assignment as Zimbabwe, like most other teams in world cricket, play very well on their home soil on pitches that will support their style of play.”

Lead selector Desmond Haynes stated, “We looked at the conditions we anticipate playing in, and have included two left-arm spinners who didn’t go to Australia in Motie and Warrican. With our fast bowlers, Seales has done extremely well for us since he started back in 2021, but with him unavailable we have decided that Gabriel would be best able to fill that role.”
