Rahul Dravid Aims At Solid Start For T20 World Cup 2022

There is no denying that the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team Rahul Dravid has all the right things to plan. The T20 World Cup is just 5 months away and we have a lot of things to decide on. Addressing the same, the Wall gave us an insight into what he thinks will be their approach from now on as we gear up for the T20 World Cup 2022

Let’s take a look at the issues he addressed and what concerns us cricket fans

Captain Hiatus

In the last 6 months, India has tried and tested 8 different captains and it doesn’t sound like good news. Indian cricket is going through a phase change where we will see a lot of changes given that our start players are getting older and have too many responsibilities on their heads. After Virat Kohli, we had Rohit Sharma, K L Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and others to test and decide who could be our next captain full-time. It may look like an indecisive phase where too much trying and testing is happening but this is also very important to decide what our future looks like.

Finding a Finisher

Rahul Dravid may have directed a hint toward the first few selections for the World Cup squad as the last date for submission for the squad to World Cup is out. He mentioned how Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik are performing for the team is giving hope and they probably have the best in the finisher game to do the job for India. It is a big relief because, after Dhoni’s retirement, India didn’t have a man to do the job for them for a long time.

Form trouble

The head coach also clearly mentioned that how the players are performing in the short term is actually not a concern for him. He said Shreyas Iyer’s lack of runs in this innings and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s one innings cannot decide if they are the best people to be selected for the squad. He clearly said all those who play at this level deserve to be here and their performance in long run is a decider.

Squad Formation

It is fair to say that India has a pretty strong bench but World Cup is a big tournament where we have to send our best team. The coach made it pretty clear that with every series the management is going to analyze how the players are performing and what a squad should look like. We may see the final squad by mid of September.

Takeaway from Bilateral Series

The team may not have a bilateral series in Australia but they are looking to analyse the situation in the continent. The coach talked about following the Big Bash and other series that Australia will be playing to analyze how the pitches are playing and what are the aspects they should keep in mind while making the squad.

The team seems to be following a good direction and we can definitely trust the coach and management to take the best decision. There are definitely concerns about what the final squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 will look like but we can trust our players who are the best in the world.
