On the final day of the third test match, the Indian fast bowling unit wrote the script of one of the finest days in Indian cricket. With 272 to defend, Indian speedsters broke the back of the hosts in the first hour of the game itself from where they were unable to recover and lost the game by a huge margin of 151 runs.
After two games in the series, the test series was on draw level, and both teams wanted to win the Lord’s test to gain the lead in the 5-match series with England started the match as favourites to win.
But the Indian team were in no mood to handover the lead as they fought hard and opened their account first. The victory gave India a 1-0 lead in a five-match series after just their third win in 19 Tests at the ‘home of cricket’.

Chasing the target of 272 on the final day, England were on 1 for 2, courtesy Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami’s dangerous bowling, which English batters found it hard to play.
England’s skipper, who scored a splendid 180* in the first innings, tried it hard to add some runs and to keep on moving towards target, fell for 33 due to pressure of lack of support from the other end.
England were 120 for 7, with the only designated batter left on crease for them, but that the final score for the English side for the match as they lost their final three wickets all on 120 and lost the game by 151 runs.
Mohammed Siraj picked most number of wickets for the Indian side (4) Jasprit Bumrah grabbed 3, Ishant Sharma bagged 2, while Mohammed Shami took a single wicket in the fourth innings of the game.
Test to remember
The Indian side started the test on a bang note, with both openers added 126 for the first wicket, Rohit walked back to pavilion after missing well-deserved century by 17 runs. But KL Rahul stood tall in the innings and scored a century that helped India to post 364 in the first innings.
In reply, England posted 391 to claim a 27 run-lead over the visitors. The second innings of team India were not so pleasant as they were losing wickets in quick times. Then vice-captain did support the team to move the scoreboard tickling by playing a 61 one knock before walking back to pavilion.
However, the speedsters Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami before displaying magic with their bowling during the final innings of the match. They did the unthinkable with the bat as both added 89 for the ninth wicket, with Shami played an unbeaten knock of 56, while Bumrah also remained not out sat 34 before skipper Virat Kohli announced declaration at 298 for 8
Apart from the heroics of team pacers in the second innings who helped India to claim their 3rd victory at Lord’s, it was a special test for the Indian opener KL Rahul as well, who scored a century (129) in the first innings and later honoured with the man of the match title.
