Things to expect after Team India’s loss to South Africa: T20 World Cup 2022
Despite Surya Kumar Yadav’s brilliance, India went down to South Africa in their first loss of the ICC T20 world cup. India started the campaign brilliantly against Pakistan. Then followed the momentum on a good note with the Netherlands and clinched the win.
When talking about the pitch the Perth stadium is too bouncy for the batting order. As they gave South Africa a relatively easier target of 134 runs which was chased down by the Proteas with a few balls remaining. Here, we look at three things to expect from the Indian contingent after the disappointing loss on Sunday.
Things that can land the Indian team into trouble:
The patchy form of Kl Rahul:
Indian batting order can be a concern in the top order when considering the Opener Kl Rahul in the line. As his performance is the talk of the town and every cricket expert. Everyone is questioning the selection committee regarding the replacements sitting on the bench outside. Despite of good players on the bench. Kl Rahul is considered on his bad form and it is almost the end of the Tournament. Also, his run stats are not so good this time. He has not scored a good double-digit run in an innings.
Whereas, after his dismissal in the first initial overs the load shifted to the Second pile of batters. Who was responsible to take the match from the middle overs, like Virat, Surya, and Hardik to act as an anchor to the team? With the upcoming update, Dinesh Karthik will be ruled out of the 11s and Rishabh Panth will be seen in the top order.
India’s Pacers can take the advantage of the pitch:
Jasprit Bumrah, one of the best fast bowlers in the world, was anticipated to spearhead India’s bowling attack in Australia due to the abundance of pace and bounce available. However, the Indian team suffered a significant blow when a back spasm occurred two weeks before the start of the biggest T20 tournament in history.
Along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya, the seasoned Mohammed Shami settled the Indian bowling attack. Allowing captain Sharma to rest Axar Patel in favor of Deepak Hooda, an extra batsman, against South Africa.
With tougher oppositions like New Zealand, England, and Australia who are much more comfortable with the pace of the pitches. Here Indian Bowlers will have to try variations to be in the match and fetch some wickets for the team. The Bowling lineup will need to be at the top of the form to lift the cup.
India needs to gain the momentum back:
After the loss to the Proteas India lost some confidence. India will have to be the favorite in the upcoming IND vs BAN. So that the tournament will get more interesting for the side.
The confidence of Babar Azam’s team was shaken by Pakistan’s loss to India in the opening game, and they later lost a key match against the underdogs of Zimbabwe. The Indian team now faces Zimbabwe and Bangladesh in their next two Super 12 matches. The Men in Blue must make sure the difference in class and talent is evident on the field as well.
