India Tour Of England: India’s Test players have left for England for the one-off test starting on July 1.
Team India including former captain Virat Kohli, Vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami, Shardul Thakur, and others have left for the tour of the United Kingdom. The tour will feature the fifth and final Test of the series from July 1 along with three T20 and ODIs each.
Team India coach Rahul Dravid will join the side upon the conclusion of the ongoing T20I series against South Africa. While another coach will travel to England along with skipper Rohit Sharma.
Pujara took to his Twitter account and wrote, Ready for the next challenge, UK bound!
Earlier this year, Pujara was dropped after the South Africa tour, but the veteran was called up again in the 17-member squad after a spectacular batting performance for Sussex, including two and two double hundreds, in 5 County Championship Division games.
India was 2-1 up in the series when Covid-19 hit the Indian camp before the commencement of the final test of the 5-match series at Old Trafford and the 5th and the final game got postponed. Edgbaston from July 1 will now host the one-off test match.
All Indian players tested for COVID-19 before boarding the flight. After the members, after they land in London, they will have to go to Leicester for a short camp ahead of a 4-day warm-up game against Leicestershire, starting June 24.
While the test team will play a warm-up game, simultaneously the young team under Hardik Pandya will play a two-match T20 series against Ireland.
Hardik Pandya was named as the captain of the India team, who will tour to Ireland, while Sunrisers Hyderabad’s reliable batter Rahul Tripathi got a maiden India call-up. Sanju Samson, who failed to make it into the squad for the ongoing South Africa series will also go with the squad touring to Ireland.
India will play a two against Ireland. And a test match, 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is against England.
