After the limited-over series against England, Team India will travel to West Indies for a white-ball series, comprising three ODIs and five T20Is, India to play near full-strength squad in five T20Is.
The tour will begin from July 22 with ODIs first, for which BCCI on Wednesday had announced the squad for the ODI. The selectors named a 16-member squad excluding star players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah. While Shikhar Dhawan has been appointed as the captain and Ravindra Jadeja as vice-captain.
However, for the T20 series, the selectors are likely to choose full-strength squad but without Kohli.
Why Virat Kohli is not playing against West Indies?
According to some media reports, Kohli has reportedly requested the selectors, team management and the BCCI to not consider him for the West Indies T20I series.
Kohli being rested for another T20 put his place in the upcoming World Cup’s team in doubt. He was not been included in a 5-match T20 series against South Africa at home in June. Now the ex-skipper won’t be a part of West Indies tour with the World Cup is only 2 months away.
Although, this doesn’t mean about his exclusion from India’s T20 team. He is very much in world cup scheme, according to a report by cricbuzz.
As per the report, he requested the selection committee to not to include him in the upcoming West Indies tour due to rest.
All the three ODIs will take place at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad. While T-20 games will take place at different venues in West Indies, starting July 29.
Team India will play the ODI series in the absence of all-format captain Rohit Sharma. The experienced campaigner Shikhar Dhawan will lead the side with Ravindra Jadeja as his deputy. While the hitman will believed to join the squad and also lead the side in the T20 series.
