Bumrah, Team India’s star pacer, is recovering from a back injury and will miss the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.

Dale Steyn on Bumrah: Jasprit Bumrah will be out for at least six months due to a stress fracture, according to multiple reports. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not disclosed any details about his injury.

There is much discussion about who should replace Bumrah in the T20 World Cup. So far, no replacement has been named by the selectors. Perhaps they want to watch how Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, and Avesh Khan perform in the ongoing ODI series against South Africa.

Meanwhile, former South African seamer Dale Steyn has named his preferred replacement for Bumrah at the ICC’s marquee event. Steyn stated during a chat show on Star Sports India that while India will undoubtedly miss Bumrah in Australia, fast bowler Mohammed Shami tops his list of replacement options.

“The opposition breathes a sigh of relief when they learn that Jasprit Bumrah is unavailable.” He’s a fantastic bowler. He has played all over the world also an impactfull player, and he can bowl at any point during the game. His skill execution is flawless, and India places a high value on him. “It’s a shame he’s not at the World Cup, because as a spectator, I’d love to see him play,” Steyn said.

“I’m sad, and I feel for him.” As a replacement, I would look for someone with similar experience who qualifies. Mohammed Shami is probably the guy I’d go with. “He’s been around the world. He can swing the ball and bowl quickly when he wants to,” the Proteas legend added.

Steyn also discussed other options, but insisted on writing Shami’s name down as his first-choice bowler.

As India has got a bunch of talent in the bowling line up. In the line up you have Deepak Chahar who has a swing, Siraj who has got skills and Avesh has some good pace. But I think the top of the line would be Mohammad Shami. As I have written down the name here If he’s fully fit he is somebody who can take the bowling lineup. To the same extent as of Bumrah would have taken India in the death overs. But Team India would miss Bumrah for sure according to Steyn.
