England youngster Harry Brook, making his debut at the IPL auction, started a huge bidding war at the IPL 2023 Auction and took home an enormous pay cheque of Rs 13.25 crore.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Mini-auction: It was no surprise that SunRisers Hyderabad, the franchise with the highest purse, broke their bank to sign the 23-year-old. Brook had kept his base price at Rs 1.5 crore and nobody expected him to fetch such a lucrative contract.

The Hyderabad-based outfit was involved in an intense bidding war with Rajasthan Royals, who only had Rs 13.20 Cr in their purse.

The Royals were adamant about signing the English teenager despite their tight budget, but they were forced to back down when they ran out of money. SRH, on the other hand, was aware that RR lacked the resources to challenge them and continued boosting their offers, locking him into a big deal.

The SRH management was happy with their signing, but social media users did not share their enthusiasm. They believed that the Royals manipulated them into paying too much for Brook by feigning interest while well aware that they couldn’t compete with SRH.

Opening bids for the batter were made by Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and others. The player cost Rs. 1 crore at base level.

As three clubs fought it out for the first batter, Chennai Super Kings entered the fray with a Rs 3 crore offer. With an offer of Rs. 4 crore, Sunrisers Hyderabad also entered the competition. Before SRH signed the player, both teams were still embroiled in a bidding war.

One season after being retained by Punjab Kings at Rs 14 crore, Agarwal was let go. He has been a member of the team since 2018, and he served as captain in 2022.
