Suryakumar Yadav missed out on a well-deserved hundred as he was caught in the bowling of off-spinner Yuvrajsinh Dodiya. Overall, Surya hit 14 boundaries and a six after walking into bat when Mumbai was reeling at 5 for 2. Having lost young guns Prithvi Shaw (4) and Yashashvi Jaiswal (2).
Surya Kumar got to 95 in just 107 balls as he stitched a 61-run stand with captain Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane, knocks 24 and a 92-run stand with Sarfaraz Khan, who made 75.
Ranji Trophy 2022-23: 2ND SUCCESSIVE 90
It was Surya Kumar’s second successive score in the 90s for Mumbai in the ongoing Ranji Trophy campaign after he hit an 80-ball 90 for Mumbai against Hyderabad earlier in December. Surya Kumar had missed Mumbai’s first match of the season but played the 2nd match. Which was also his first first-class match since February 2020.
Suryakumar was called-up for the Test squad for the first time when India played the rescheduled 5th Test in England earlier this year. However, the World No. 1 T20I batter is yet to make his debut in the longest format of the game.
Mumbai were Bowled out for 230 as there were no other considerable contributions apart from the fifties Surya kumar Yadav and Sarfaraz.
Sarfaraz’s brother Musheer Khan chipped in with 12 but Mumbai lost their last 6 wickets for just 24 runs.
Saurashtra’s Dharmendrasinh Jadeja and Yuvrajsinh picked up 4 wickets each. While Chetan Sakariya and Chirag Jani picked up a wicket each.
Saurashtra are without their captain Jaydev Unadkat and star batter Cheteshwar Pujara as the two stars returned from the tour of Bangladesh only on January 26.
Earlier in the match, stand-in captain Vasavada top-scored with 75 as Saurashtra posted 289 in the first innings. However, they were reduced to 120 for 6 at Stumps on Day 2 after Shams Mulani picked up a 4-wicket haul to go with another 4 in the first innings.
Saurashtra have a 179-run lead on a spin-friendly track and Mumbai will be hoping to finish off their innings quickly on Thursday morning.
