Suryakumar Yadav on Rohit Sharma: The sensational Suryakumar Yadav has credited Rohit Sharma for making him a better player and advising him in every phase of his cricketing career so far.
Suryakumar Yadav has impressed everyone with his brilliant batting skills and performance in such a small time. He made his debut for India last year against England and since then he has been one of India’s most consistent performers in white-ball cricket in the last year and a half.
Surya recently made history by becoming the fifth Indian batsman to record a century in T20Is. He struck 117 from 55 balls in the third Twenty20 International of the three-match series against England at Trent Bridge with the help of 14 fours and 6 sixes.
Before his achievements for India, Surya established a strong reputation for himself in domestic cricket. Recently, a tweet from Indian captain Rohit Sharma from 2011 that stated Surya is a talent from Mumbai who one should watch out for in the future got viral on the internet.
Suryakumar Yadav on Rohit Sharma?
Rohit and Surya have been with the Mumbai Indians for the previous five seasons. When asked about Rohit’s influence on his cricketing career, Surya said that Rohit has helped him a lot with his batting ever since his domestic cricket days.
“When I started playing domestic cricket, when I made my debut for Mumbai, it was him (Rohit) who was batting at the other end. He always tries to think about what I can add to my game. We speak a lot about cricket, which areas I can improve, how long I can bat and help the team.”
“He’s been watching me and talking about my cricket since I played domestic cricket. Coming into IPL in 2018-19 we used to talk a lot about my game, how I can improve, handle pressure situations and move forward and take the game ahead. We have had a lot of chat about my game, and I have literally felt him on the ground whenever he’s leading. I have learnt a lot from him. I’m really happy. He has shown a lot of confidence in me.
“I still remember during the 2021 IPL second leg, I was not going through a good patch and he was the one who had a lot of chat with me (and supported me). The way things are going, I would like to repay that confidence by scoring runs and winning the game for the team,” Surya said ahead of the third and final ODI against England at Old Trafford.
