The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will unveil their new One-Day International (ODI) uniform on May 17, just in time for the summer season. The new Castore Sports shirt will be worn by all of England’s national teams in the upcoming season, including Men, Women, Disability, and Pathway. ECB shared a sneak preview video of the new kit on its Instagram page to announce the launch. On the blue jersey with a stripe pattern, the classic ‘three lions’ insignia appears once more. Fans will be able to try on the new uniforms worn by the players throughout the match.
England’s men’s cricket squad will begin the summer season with a three-match ODI series against the Netherlands in June, followed by home series against India and South Africa in July.
As interview processes wrap up, the ECB expects to name England’s next ODI coach by next week. Mathew Mott, Australia’s women’s white-ball coach, and Paul Collingwood, England’s previous temporary head coach, are among the front-runners for the role. The board is also said to be considering having the two work together, according to The Guardian. Former Indian coach Gary Kirsten, former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, and Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming are all candidates.
Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum was previously named as the men’s Test team coach by the ECB. Gary Kirsten was one of the front-runners for the job, but McCullum came out on top. The former New Zealand captain, who is presently the head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders, will leave the organization at the end of the current season. McCullum joined KKR as a coach in 2020, having previously played for the team. He has also played and coached for the Caribbean Premier League’s Trinbago Knight Riders.
McCullum is expected to join the English squad ahead of the commencement of the three-match home test series against New Zealand on June 2.
After last year’s Ashes disaster, former England coach Chris Silverwood resigned. Ben Stokes, an all-rounder, was named the team’s red-ball coach captain, succeeding Joe Root, who served a five-year tenure.
