Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy player Update: Shreyas Iyer Joins the Mumbai Squad
In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a competition in which the domestic superpower hasn’t exactly done well in recent years, India batsman Shreyas Iyer has joined the Mumbai team for its campaign. Iyer will be eligible for selection for Mumbai when they take on Rajasthan on Tuesday in Rajkot (October 20).
Change in plans
Iyer previously listed as a stand-by for India’s 2022 T20 World Cup campaign. But he skipped the trip to Australia. After the ODI series against South Africa concluded on October 11, Iyer requested permission from the BCCI to join the state team and he subsequently got named Mumbai’s 16th member in the squad.
Special Allowance
Despite the fact that he would be an unofficial 16th member of the team. Iyer received special authorization to join the team from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Next Match for Mumbai
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has been notified by the BCCI that although it may have a squad of 16, only 15 players may stand in the dugout. Suryansh Shedge, had earlier replaced Sardhul Thakur as the designated 16th player, will sit outside the dugout.
Concerns over Rahane Captaincy
In the game against Madhya Pradesh, Rahane hurt his ankle during fielding, therefore he took a break. Ajinkya Rahane’s fitness problems have been disregarded by MCA authorities as of now. Prithvi Shaw headed the team in place of Mumbai’s captain. Who missed the past two Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy games against Assam and Vidarbha. Rahane, the team’s season-long captain, will, however, be available for the upcoming game, according to MCA authorities.
Shaw’s recent form
Shaw’s red-ball reputation has suffered greatly during Shaw’s absence. The national selectors prefer Priyank Panchal and Abhimanyu Easwaran to begin the innings for India A against New Zealand A in the first-class matches. Shaw also not included in the Rest of India roster for the just concluded Irani Cup. Shaw, for his part, has improved his fitness throughout this time away.
But in the Mumbai’s victory over Assam in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23 Elite Group A game on Friday, October 14. Mumbai captain Prithvi Shaw provided yet another example of his outstanding form by smashing 134 off just 61 balls. Mumbai reached 230 for three thanks to Shaw’s genius, and their bowlers then limited Assam to 169.
