Mavi’s Wickets in the first T20I
In his very first over, Mavi took the first wicket for the hosts by dismissing Sri Lanka’s opener Pathum Nissanka. Then, in his second over, he took Dhananjaya de Silva’s wicket to demoralise the opposition at 24/2 after 3.5 overs. Which eventually gave India a successful start to their bowling.
Mavi’s Comments on his dream debut
After the match when asked about his feelings and emotions, he stated that “When I entered the ground, it was a dream-come-true moment for me. I got the chance to play for India in my very first tour’s first match, I got the chance quite early and I was waiting for this moment.”
When asked about his happiness, he said “Honestly, I will call at home and then get a good sleep because the series ahead is quite hectic”.
Shivam Mavi’s Early life
On August 27, 2018, he made his List A debut for India A against South Africa A in the Quadrangular Series. Mavi recorded a hat-trick for Uttar Pradesh against Saurashtra on the opening day of the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy in September of that year. On November 1, 2018, he made his first-class debut for Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy for the 2018–19 season.
Mavi scored four boundaries against Goa in Kanpur on his Ranji debut as Uttar Pradesh knocked Goa out for just 152. He recorded his first five-wicket haul against Odisha in his second first-class game.

The spinner Axar Patel was able to contain 13 runs in the final over as the contest came down to the wire. Mavi finished with impressive stats of 4 for 22 in 4 overs.
Sri Lanka was dismissed for 160 runs in 20 overs. Despite valiant efforts from Chamika Karunaratne (23 not out off 16) and captain Dasun Shanaka (45 off 27). At this stadium, India has never defended a lower total. However, Mavi’s strikes at the beginning and conclusion of the inning tipped the game in the home team’s favour.
