India vs Bangladesh Player Updates
The selectors may choose to invite Suryakumar Yadav for his first Test appearance. As Ravindra Jadeja is unlikely to recover fully in time for India vs Bangladesh Test series
India vs Bangladesh: According to BCCI sources, Ravindra Jadeja is unlikely to fully recover in time for the Bangladesh Test series. The series will start on December 14 in Chittagong. The need for a fourth specialist spinner is debatable given that India already has three of them in the form of off-spinner R Ashwin, left-arm wrist spinner Axar Patel, and left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
Surya’s Possible Test Call-up
BCCI is thinking that the team already has three spinners and now with Jadeja’s fitness yet to be fully recovered the Indian selectors might give a chance to Suryakumar Yadav. Surya has been in the prime of his life and it is truly fair to give him a chance in the red ball format.
Other Possible Replacement Option?
After being called up earlier this year, Saurabh Kumar of India A would make the team under a like-for-like replacement. Additionally, he bagged five wickets against New Zealand A in a test series in Bengaluru. So Saurabh could also be a possible option for BCCI selectors in place of Jadeja.
Inside Source Comments
An inside source from BCCI has revealed to the PTI that “Jadeja has been to NCA for his check-up and rehab on a number of occasions. However, as of now, it is unlikely that he will be fit for the Bangladesh series. In any case, Chetan Sharma-led former selection committee had kept him in the squad subject to fitness.”
When did the Injury Happen?
Ravindra Jadeja underwent surgery for an injury that has kept him out of action since India’s Asia Cup group-stage match against Hong Kong. The 33-year-old was even unavailable for India’s T20 World Cup campaign in Australia. Now he is set to miss the Bangladesh series also.
