Early Life of Ponting
The oldest of Graeme and Lorraine Ponting’s four children, Ricky Ponting was born on December 19, 1974, in Launceston, Tasmania. Graeme played Australian rules football and was “a fine club cricketer,” while Lorraine was the state vigoro champion.
In 1989 and 1990, his uncle Greg Campbell participated in Test cricket for Australia. Initially residing in Prospect, 2.5 miles south of the city center, Ponting’s parents later relocated to the working-class neighborhood of Newnham, 6 miles north of the heart of Launceston.
