David Warner’s 100th Test Match
Since Warner hasn’t recorded a Test century in nearly three years, there has been talking that he would give up the format
David Warner’s 100th Test Match: David Warner, who will play in his 100th Test match for Australia, is eager to put his recent slump in form behind him. Warner has gone 10 Test innings without scoring 50 runs, and in his last 27 appearances in the longest format, he has averaged just 26.07.
He is also a few steps away from creating a new record for himself as Warner committed to taking on the Proteas bowling attack in the Boxing Day Test if he scores 78 or more in the second Test at the MCG, making him just the eighth player to surpass 8,000 Test runs for Australia.
Warner’s Last Test match
In the first innings of the first Test match between South Africa and Australia at The Gabba, he was dismissed for a first-ball duck before making just three runs in the second, despite playing on a green field where other batsmen struggled to make runs. Australia won the match by six wickets in just two days.
David Warner’s Comments
“Means the world to me”, Warner stated. “It’s the same old cliché but it’s obviously a massive occasion. I’m living every housing commission boy’s dream. I wanted to play cricket for Australia and I’m doing that now,”
“I did not think I would play one Test, leave alone one hundred. So you can well understand what it means to me and my family. I feel privileged, humbled and fulfilled.”
Talking about moral support during bad times, he stated “My back’s up against the wall but it’s in my DNA to keep being competitive and take on whatever opposition I’m going to face. I couldn’t be any more proud of myself, my family for getting me here and my closest friends.” (Source- ANI)
Dean Elgar few steps away from Creating a History
Dean Elgar, the captain of South Africa, was dissatisfied with The Gabba surface, but he will be hoping to score more runs than the five total he scored in the first Test. Elgar’s Test batting average of 18.4 in Australia is the lowest of any country, yet he is only 24 runs away from becoming the eighth Proteas player to reach 5,000 runs in men’s Tests.
