Legendary singer KK’s unforeseen demise; Indian Cricketers give condolences to the family

Krishnakumar Kunnath, also known as KK, died on May 31 (Tuesday) night in Kolkata after apparently becoming unwell after a live performance at a college fest. Condolences and emotional messages flooded in from all sides following his sudden demise at the age of 53, and the cricketing fraternity lamented the renowned singer’s passing as well.

Anil Kumble, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, VVS Laxman, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Wasim Jaffer, and Sunil Joshi were among the cricketers who rushed to Twitter to express their sorrow and condolences to the singer’s family. The 53-year-old was a prominent vocalist in the Indian cinema business, recording songs in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Bengali, among other languages.


“Deeply saddened by the passing of KK. Condolences to his family and friends,” wrote former India captain and former head coach Anil Kumble, while former India opener Virender Sehwag wrote: “Tragic to hear about the passing away of KK after falling ill while performing in Kolkata. Another reminder of how fragile life is. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti.”

“Saddened by the untimely demise of a wonderful Singer, KK. He will live on through his music.
My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends,” current NCA chairman VVS Laxman tweeted. Through his songs, he will live on. My deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends. Former India batsman VVS Laxman composed “Om Shanti.”


“I’m heartbroken to learn about playback singer #KK’s untimely demise. His heartfelt and beautiful melodies were able to reach millions of people’s hearts. My sympathies to his family, friends, and fans. Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh tweeted: “May his holy spirit rest in peace.”

“Lost a magnificent singer of our times and so suddenly. Condolences to his family and close ones #KK ” commented former Indian captain Virat Kohli. KK’s family and loved ones have received condolences from a number of Indian players.
