International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced both male and female nominees for player of the month for May on Monday.
In Men’s category, there are 1 Bangladeshi and 2 Sri Lankan cricketers. While in Women’s category 2 players are from Pakistan and one is from Jersey.
From Bangladesh, the veteran Mushfiqur Rahim has been nominated for the ICC Player of the Month for May following his splendid run against Sri Lanka in test series at home.
The former Bangladesh captain Rahim has score 303 runs in 3 innings at an average of 151.50, including 2 hundred.
While from Sri Lanka, Angelo Mathews and Asitha Fernando has been nominated.
Angelo Mathews, who ended the Sri Lanka versus Bangladesh series as the highest scorer with 344 runs in 3 innings, including 2 hundreds, was honoured with the honoured with the nomination for his impeccable contribution to the team’s total in both the games.
And the young Asitha Fernando finished his run with the highest wicket-taker with 13 wickets in 2 games, including one 4-fers and one 5-fers.
Both Angelo Mathews with bat and Asitha Fernando played a key role in defeating Bangladesh at their home by 2-0.
In Women’s category, Pakistani fast bowlers Tuba Hasan and Bismah Maroof and a Jersey player Trinity Smith, are nominated for ICC Women’s Player of the month award.
Tuba Hasan was awarded as the player of the match in her first T20 international game against Sri Lanka and later also been awarded with the player of the series award for taking five wickets in 3 matches. While the captain Bismah Maroof has been nominated for her brilliant show throughout the series as she ended the series as the highest-run getter with 65 in 3 games.
This is the first time any player from the Island has been nominated for the ICC women’s player of the month award.
The 17-year-old totalled 120 runs in 3 innings without getting out in a tournament versus France, Spain and Austria last month. Apart from her batting heroics she also bagged 4 wickets with the ball as Jersey won the tournament.
