Indian bowling coach Paras Mhambrey (Happy Birthday Paras Mhambrey) is celebrating 50th birthday today.
Mhambrey was born in Bombay on June 20, 1972 and is well known for his medium-pace bowling. However he did not play much international cricket, but many will remember him as a player who made his debut on the same tour in England where Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and Venkatesh Iyer began their careers.
He has been employed with the National Cricket Academy for the past 10 years after securing a level-3 diploma from the NCA in Bangalore.
Mhambrey has played 2 tests for team India, where he scored 58 runs at an average of 29 with the bat and took 2 wickets with the ball. While in white-ball cricket he has represented India for 3 ODIs, in which he scored 7 runs with the bat and grabbed 3 wickets with the ball.
He has played his last ODI against Bangladesh in 1998 and his best figures in ODIs were 2/68.
However, he has played 91 first-class games, where he scored 1665 runs at an average of 19.36, while with the ball he has impressive numbers as he took 284 wickets with 7 for 42 remained his best figures in first-class.
In his List-A career, Mhambrey has posted 242 runs and bagged 111 wickets.
The current bowling coach has been travelled with India’s U-19 and India A teams as head coach on various tours.
The main reason behind BCCI selected Mhambrey for the bowling coach role is the next batch of Indian bolwers are those who have been under him either under-19 or A level as India’s current line-up Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav may get retire in next couple of years.
Apart from India’s U-19 and India A teams, he has coached various state teams (Maharashtra, Baroda, and Vidarbha), Mumbai Indian in IPL (assistant coach).
Last year in November, Mhambrey was appointed as the bowling coach of Indian Cricket Team.
