Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad (Happy Birthday Javed Miandad) is celebrating 65th birthday today.
Miandad was born in Karachi on June 12, 1957, and is well known for his powerful batting. During his impressive career, he has amassed 8832 runs in 124 Test matches, including 23 centuries and 43 half-centuries, and set a World Cup record by playing in six World Cups.
In his cricketing career, the star hitter has set numerous records, but his competitive equation with the Indian squad has always kept him in the spotlight.
Tendulkar and Miandad have both competed in six World Cups.
Miandad featured in six ODI World Cups. He holds the world record for most World Cup appearances with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. He played for Pakistan in the ODI World Cups in 1975, 1979, 1983, 1987, 1992, and 1996. In 1992, he played a key role in Pakistan’s maiden world cup win in 1992.
2004 incident with Irfan Pathan
The all-rounder Irfan Pathan was selected in the Indian squad for the India tour of Pakistan in 2004. The then-coach of the Pakistan cricket team, Javed Miandad, has stated that bowlers like Irfan can be found on Pakistani streets.
Mr. Mehmood Pathan, Irfan Pathan’s father, was upset by Miandad’s statement. However, in front of Irfan’s father, he later withdrew his comments.

He not just smashed an 116 runs off 114 but also helped his side win the game and the cup after hitting a six on the last ball of the innings bowled by Chetan Sharma, when Pakistan were 242 for 9 and needed 4 runs to win the game.

The famous batsman made his ODI debut against the West Indies in 1975 and went on to amass 7381 runs in 233 games. He had 8 centuries and 50 half-centuries during this time.
Apart from his heroics in limited overs cricket, he also impressed everyone with his brilliant batting technique in the tests as well.
Javed Miandad is only the second cricketer in history to never have a Test average below 50. This record had previously been in the name of Herbert Sachcliffe of England. In 124 Tests, Javed scored 8832 runs at an average of 52.57. During this time, he smashed 23 centuries and 43 half-centuries.
While in 402 first-class matches he played, Miandad scored 28663 runs, including 80 centuries and 139 half-centuries.
