VVS Laxman to coach India for the New Zealand tour
Laxman To Coach India Team: After India’s T20 World Cup campaign, Rahul Dravid has been given a sabbatical. VVS Laxman will serve as acting head coach for the tour of New Zealand, which begins on November 18.
According to a PTI report, Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Sairaj Bahutule will also go to New Zealand with the team, serving as batting and bowling coaches, respectively.
Laxman, who oversees the National Cricket Academy, has previously served as India’s coach for brief periods of time, including earlier this year’s travels to Ireland and Zimbabwe as well as the most recent home ODI series against South Africa. He also oversaw the India Under-19 team, which triumphed in the ODI World Cup in February.
Next Friday in Wellington, a three-match T20I series will begin India’s tour of New Zealand.
Following India’s tour of New Zealand and Bangladesh, Dravid will resume his coaching duties. On November 30, India plays the third One-Day International against New Zealand. On December 4, India plays the first of three One-Day Internationals against Bangladesh.
Along with giving the coaching staff a holiday, India has also rested senior hitters Virat Kohli and KL Rahul as well as regular captain Rohit Sharma.
India’s T20I series skipper will be the all-arounder Hardik Pandya, while Shikhar Dhawan will take the helm for the ODI series.
India was eliminated from the T20 World Cup on Thursday after England crushed them by 10 wickets in the semifinal. According to sources, the members of the Indian team who are not travelling to New Zealand have already begun to leave Australia. Rahul and Rohit are also anticipated to board a flight soon, after Kohli’s departure from Adelaide.
As far as the specialized coaches are concerned, former Indian cricketers Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Sairaj Bahutule will assist Laxman as batting and bowling coaches respectively. With Abhay Sharma currently part of the Indian Women’s team, Munish Bali will travel to New Zealand as a fielding coach.
