Chetan Sharma News Today: A local television station’s undercover investigation led to the resignation of the chairman of India’s cricket selection committee.

Chetan Sharma, a former star cricketer, was caught on camera making shocking claims about the selection process and specific individuals.

The video caused controversy after it went viral on social media.

Senior cricket officials stated that Mr. Sharma’s resignation had been accepted and that he had “resigned voluntarily.”

“Yes, Chetan Sharma has tendered his resignation to BCCI secretary Jay Shah,” a senior official of the Board of Control for Cricket in India told PTI news agency.

“His position had become untenable after the sting operation.”

Mr. Sharma was reappointed last month after serving in the position since December 2020.

Chetan Sharma discussed team India’s internal issues in viral video

On Tuesday, Zee TV showed video of him discussing issues pertaining to the men’s cricket squad.

He said in the video that Sourav Ganguly, the previous BCCI president, and Virat Kohli, the former captain of the Indian team, had “ego clashes.”

He asserted that Mr. Kohli had made a false claim that the governing body had not informed him of his removal as ODI captain.

“There was no need to bring up this topic… but he [Mr Kohli] did so intentionally,” Mr Sharma can be heard saying in the video.

Additionally, he claimed that some players compete even though they are not match-fit and use injections to hasten their recovery after injuries.

Mr. Sharma has not offered any public commentary since the video was released.

The top selector’s voluntary resignation has simplified matters for the BCCI, which would otherwise have had to go through a drawn-out disciplinary process that included a show-cause notice, a temporary suspension, a formal hearing, and a decision by the Ethics Officer.

His departure leaves the Indian selection committee comprised of Salil Ankola, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, and S Sharath without a chairperson, as the BCCI has yet to appoint a new chairman.
