Andre Russell reply to Phil Simmons
After the comments from Simmons earlier, West Indies All-rounder Andre Russell on his Instagram post had a dig at the Coach Phil Simmons and chief selector Desmond Haynes.
West Indies recently toured India in 2 match ODI series and five-match T20 series where the 2 time T20 world cup winners failed to prove their class against a strong Indian side where the West Indies lost the T20 series by 4-1.
Andre Russell on his Instagram shared an image of the ESPN’s article regarding the Simmons comments on the availability of key players and Russell posted that picture along with the caption “I know this was coming but am gonna stay quiet” along with some clapping and angry face emoji’s.
Players like Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Evin Lewis, and Oshane Thomas are a few players who were unavailable for the squad selections and some players were not present at the fitness tests.
The chief selector Haynes stated that “I will love everyone to play for West Indies. I would love to make sure that all the guys make themselves available to play. But you must realize that the guys have options now, and if guys are choosing other franchises in front of West Indies, then we have to pick from who is available to us, From what I have gathered, I think he is unavailable because he hasn’t made himself available.”
Even the Head coach of the West Indies team said that “It hurts. There’s no other way to put it. But what can you do? I don’t think that I should be begging people to play for their countries. I think if you want to represent West Indies, you will make yourself available.”
Things are heating up as the T20 World Cup is coming soon and only 8 teams have qualified for the tournament as of now and West Indies have not yet qualified, so now the West Indies have to play the Super 12 and will have to finish first or second to qualify for the World Cup.
