With exciting red-ball contest coming up, including two home test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand and a tour to Australia later this year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has directed the test specialists to compete in Duleep Trophy to keep themselves ready for international games.

BCCI had earlier made it mandatory for star cricketers to play in domestic set up whenever they are free from national duties.

Duleep Trophy is going to begin on September 5, the board wants every player except the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah to take part in at least one or match ahead of the mega series.
All the test specialists can be seen playing in at least a Duleep trophy match in the following month, while it will be up to Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit to play in Duleep Trophy or not.
Mohammed Shami set to make comeback via Duleep Trophy
Mohammed Shami, among the premium Indian bowlers, will likely to be back on field in the Duleep Trophy 2024 to prove his fitness. The man of big events was out of action since World Cup 2023 due to injury and is currently in NCA (National Cricket Academy) in Bengaluru and in his final phase of rehab journey.
Shami bagged the most wickets in the cricket world cup by taking 24 wickets in only seven matches, including a seven-wicket haul in the semi-final match against New Zealand.
