Will Mohammed Shami regain his form?
Mohammed Shami who returned to India’s T20 national squad after a 14-month break had an underwhelming restart to his T20I career. Mohammed Shami who was recently signed by the Sunrisers Hyderabad has a lot to prove with just 2 T20Is left in the England series. With the Champions Trophy arriving and the IPL season lurking behind, will Mohammed Shami regain his form?
Mohammed Shami’s Recent Performances
After his comeback to professional, Mohammad Shami has been making strong performances. His impressive seven-wicket haul in the Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh, where he bowled 43.2 overs showcases his consistency. Shami has also been active in the SMAT, taking 11 wickets in 35.3 overs across nine matches, with an average of 25.36 and an economy rate of 7.85, highlighting his fitness and skill in the T20 format.
In total, Shami has bowled 78 overs since his return, claiming 18 wickets across both formats. Although he has bowled his full quota of overs in the T20 matches, his performance in a knockout match against Baroda raised concerns. Despite starting with a couple of wides and struggling with consistency, Shami showed glimpses of his potential with figures of 1/13 in three overs, though his overall performance wasn’t as sharp as expected from a player aiming for an international comeback.

Would he Regain his Form?
After his inclusion in India’s T20I squad for the England tour of India 2025, he was included in the 3rd T20I replacing Arshdeep Singh. He had a decent start with his bowling stint, as he bowled 3 overs gave away 25 overs, and had no dismissals.
Mohammed Shami couldn’t hold onto his decent performances as he is known for his pressure-induced dismissals, apart from this he is a fantastic bowler with low economy rates. But as a bowler, apart from the economy, dismissals are what makes the difference for team selections.
