The trophy drought of the Kings franchise has finally been broken as their Saint Lucia Kings team won the Caribbean Premier League 2024 title after beating Guyana Amazon Warriors in the finals at Guyana. Let’s look at Trophy drought ends for Kings franchise.

It was Saint Lucia’s maiden CPL title as well as the first for the Kings franchise, whose Punjab Kings compete in the Indian Premier League.

The Faf du Plessis-led Saint Lucia Kings started their tournament on a positive note with 2 back-to-back victories. But their celebration faced a halt with two consecutive defeats.  

With 2 wins and 2 losses after four games, the Kings not looked back and went on to win their next five league stage games before losing to Guyana Warriors in their last league game to finish as the second-best team on points table to qualify for qualifiers.  

Team Saint Lucia Kings took the revenge and defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors in qualifiers 1 to become first team to qualify for the CPL 2024 finale.

Saint Lucia Kings faced Guyana Amazon Warriors for third time in a row after the later reached the finale following their win in qualifiers 2.  

After winning the toss the skipper of Saint Lucia Kings opted to bowl first, and the bowlers proved their skipper’s decision right by restricting the Guyana Amazon to 138 in 20 overs. 

Chasing a target of 139, the SLK team lost their first wicket early, while skipper Faf du Plessis and Ackeem Auguste also left the middle after scoring 21 and 13, respectively.  

There were high hopes from wicketkeeper batter Tim Seifert, but he failed with the bat and scored only 3.

With 51 for 4 after 9.5 overs, the Kings were looking in some trouble, but what happened next changed the complete scenario of the match.  

Roston Chase and Aaron Jones took complete responsibility of finishing the job, and both recorded 88 for the fifth wicket in 50 balls to give their side a memorable moment.  

Chase played an unbeaten knock of 39* off 22, while Aaron Jones shot 48* off 31.  

Johnson Charles scored the most runs for the SLK team in 2024 edition, with 459 runs at a strike-rate of 153.22. Captain Faf du Plessis also had a great tournament with the bat as he scored 402 runs. Noor Ahmad was the team’s top wicket taker, and the tournament’s leading wicket taker with 22 scalps in 12 innings.
