Shreyas Iyer to be back in BCCI central contract?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India took a strict decision when it announced its central contracts list for the 2023-24 season. The absence of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan raised eyebrows, as both players were left out after opting out of domestic cricket despite clear instructions from the board. So Let’s take a look at Shreyas Iyer to be back in BCCI central contract?.

Since then, Iyer has re-established himself as a key player in India’s ODI setup. Having played 11 ODIs in the current season, he now meets the eligibility criteria for a central contract.

His standout performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where he was India’s top scorer with 243 runs in five matches, further strengthens his contention for reinstatement. With India winning the tournament after a 12-year gap, Iyer’s role was instrumental, making his return to the contract list almost inevitable.

Ishan Kishan, who marked his Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) debut with a stunning century on March 23, is also in contention for a comeback in the contract list.

New faces in the BCCI’s latest Central Contract list

The BCCI is also set to include fresh names in the central contracts. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, and Abhishek Sharma are confirmed to be included in the ‘C’ category.

Additionally, players like Varun Chakaravarthy, Akash Deep, and Sarfaraz Khan, who meet the selection criteria—playing at least three Tests, eight ODIs, or 10 T20Is in a year—are strong candidates for a spot.

Players in line for Promotion

Suryakumar Yadav, India’s regular T20I captain, is expected to be promoted ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Axar Patel, a key figure in India’s white-ball cricket and recently appointed vice-captain for the England T20I series, is likely to move from Grade B to Grade A (Rs 5 crore retainership).

Another name in discussion is Yashasvi Jaiswal. Currently in the Grade B category (Rs 3 crore retainership), Jaiswal has impressed across formats, making a strong contender for elevation to a higher grade.

With key announcements on the horizon, all eyes are on the BCCI’s final decision regarding its central contract list which is likely to be announced soon.
