Why BCCI is Ignoring KL Rahul T20I Format?
When Rahul was dropped for the T20 World Cup the chief selector Ajith Agarkar stated the reason for dropping KL Rahul. Agarkar stated “KL Rahul has been opening in the IPL. We were mainly looking for middle-order options. So, we felt that Samson and Pant are better suited for that. Samson can bat anywhere in the lineup. So, it was just about what we needed and not about who was better.”
Mostly this is the reason why the management has once again decided to drop KL Rahul from the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Where he only be playing the ODI matches against Sri Lanka.
KL Rahul Unrated T20 Batsman
KL Rahul has scored 4683 runs in his 143 IPL matches and in four editions he even went on to score 600+ runs for his team. For India in T20Is, he has smashed 2265 runs in 68 innings for India with two centuries and 22 fifties. There is no doubt that KL Rahul is a great player but due to his past few poor seasons and injuries, the classic KL Rahul we see in ODIs is missing in the shorter format of the game.
He still has a chance to prove his worth in the coming days, where he will have to score runs consistently in order to into the Indian squad for T20I matches.

In the end, KL Rahul will have to perform well in future T20 games, but until then he can play ODI and Test formats. With the skill set that KL Rahul carries he is sure that one day in the future he will get a chance in the T20I squad. Currently, due to full strength in an opening batsman, KL Rahul will have to wait for his chance or will have to perform well in the lower order to get a chance in the Indian team.
