RCB Women Strengths and Weaknesses for WPL 2025
WPL 2025 is set to start on 14th February, with the first matchup between Royal Challengers Bengaluru against the Gujarat Giants. RCB are the defending champions who will aim to defend their title this year. With that part of their 2025 campaign clear, let’s look at RCB Women Strengths and Weaknesses for WPL 2025.
Strengths
Strong Depth
RCB had retained most of the key players who helped them in winning the WPL 2024. Ellyse Perry was the standout performer, scoring 347 runs with an average of 69.40 and a strike rate of 125.72, alongside strong batting, she claimed the best bowling figures in WPL history (6/15).
RCB’s spin attack, featuring Shreyanka Patil and Asha Sobhana, was crucial to their success. With all-rounder Georgia Wareham and power-hitter Richa Ghosh, RCB possesses a well-balanced squad ready to defend the 2025 WPL title. Their strong batting and bowling units make them formidable opponents.
Significant Pace Attack
With key players Sophie Devine and Kate Cross departing, RCB acted swiftly to secure quality players to fill the spot. Kim Garth a bowler who recently claimed nine wickets in 7 games during the 2025 Women’s Ashes and holds the record for the best WPL five-wicket haul (5/36) for Gujarat Giants.
Heather Graham, another addition, is a strong all-rounder, having taken nine wickets at an economy rate of 4.25 and scored 217 runs at a strike rate of 88.93 in the ongoing Women’s National Cricket League. Her ability to contribute across multiple areas enhances RCB’s squad strength.
Weaknesses
Injury Crisis
RCB has been hit with an injury crisis as the season approaches. Sophie Devine is taking a break, left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux is sidelined due to injury, and Kate Cross has withdrawn for rehabilitation. Ellyse Perry, their star all-rounder, also picked up a hip injury during the Ashes but has since joined the team in Bengaluru ahead of their trip to Baroda.
Spinners Asha Sobhana and Shreyanka Patil have been recovering from injuries and haven’t played international cricket since October 2024. Devine, Molineux, Perry, and Asha were key contributors to RCB’s success last season.
With Smriti Mandhana leading the squad, if the team can get past the injury crisis, they have a strong squad in their hand to firmly defend their title.
