Joe Root 13000 Test Runs

In a landmark moment at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, Joe Root scripted history on the opening day of the four-day Test between England and Zimbabwe by becoming the fastest player in terms of matches to score 13,000 runs in Test cricket. Let us look at the details on Joe Root 13000 Test Runs: Can He Break Sachin Tendulkar’s Record?

Root, playing his 153rd Test match for England, reached the milestone during the third session by nudging a single off Victor Nyauchi’s bowling in the 80th over of England’s innings

The achievement places Root in an elite club of cricketing greats including Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting, and Rahul Dravid

While Root leads the pack in terms of matches played to 13,000 runs, he is the slowest among the elite group in terms of innings, taking 279. By comparison, Tendulkar achieved the same feat in just 266 innings.

This statistic, however, does not diminish Root’s greatness. Since making his debut against India in 2012, Root has demonstrated remarkable consistency and adaptability. With an average of 50.80 across 153 Tests, and a tally of 36 centuries and 65 fifties, Root has been England’s batting mainstay for over a decade.

Root’s dominance extends across multiple top-tier teams. He has scored over 2,000 runs each against Australia and India, and more than 1,000 against New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies.

His highest score of 262 came against Pakistan, further highlighting his ability to play big innings against tough opposition.

As India prepare to tour England in June for a five-match Test series starting June 20, Root will have a chance to add another feather to his cap. He is on the verge of becoming the first player to score 7,000 runs in the World Test Championship.

With Tendulkar’s all-time Test record of 15,921 runs now within visible range, the question looms large — will Joe Root break Sachin Tendulkar’s record? If his form and fitness hold, Root will have a chance to achieve what once seemed impossible.
