To add fuel to the fire, reports on Friday suggested Dhoni might even step in as captain, given Ruturaj Gaikwad was struggling with an injury. However, Gaikwad recovered in time, leading the side, while Dhoni resumed his familiar role behind the stumps. 

Still, retirement rumors refused to die down. 

The whispers grew louder during CSK’s face-off against the Delhi Capitals. In a heartwarming moment, Dhoni’s wife Sakshi and daughter Ziva were spotted in the stands, cheering him on. What really caught everyone’s attention was a clip circulating on social media. In the video, Sakshi appears to tell Ziva, “last match”—a moment that quickly went viral and left fans emotional.

On the field, Dhoni’s recent performances haven’t silenced the critics either. In CSK’s chase of 184 against DC, hopes were high when he came to bat with 110 runs still required in 56 balls. But the partnership with Vijay Shankar, while steady, wasn’t quite enough. Dhoni managed just 30 off 26 balls, striking at 115.38.  

Despite all the speculation, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming has dismissed retirement talks, insisting Dhoni is still “performing at a high level” and that there’s no official word about him stepping away anytime soon. 

“No, that’s not my role to put an end to it. I have no idea. I’m just enjoying working with him still. He’s still going strong. I don’t even ask these days. You are the ones who ask.” – said Stephen Fleming during post match conference. 

But the bigger concern might be the team’s performance. With only one win in four matches, CSK is currently in ninth spot on the points table. If the trend continues, their playoff hopes could slip away fast. 

As fans eagerly await CSK’s next clash—set for April 8 against Punjab Kings at Mullanpur—all eyes will be on Dhoni for a powerful comeback.
