Is Ben Stokes the new McCullum of test cricket, The current test captain of team England has stunned everyone with his power hitting in the third test while chasing a target of 82 against West Indies at Edgbaston.  

Ben Stokes, who came at the crease as opener in place of injured Zak Crawley took only 28 to score not out 57 that included nine fours and two maximums.

With that, Stokes not only grabbed the title of scoring a fastest fifty as an Englishman, but he led his side to a 3-0 Whitewash against West Indies.  

The Stokes-McCullum Era

Stokes became the captain of England’s test team and Brendon McCullum also joined the team as the head coach the same summer.  

McCullum, who is known for his aggressive batting approach motivated the team to play with a similar method in red-ball cricket, and that’s when the term ‘Bazball’ came in picture.

England started the Bazball approach at home series and found success, as they won ten out of their first eleven games. 

The duo Stokes and McCullum got much appreciation from fans after those results, and the stylish all-rounder also adopted the style in his batting.  

Soon he overtook McCullum in terms of hitting most number of sixes in test cricket and is currently the leading six hitter in the longest format of the game.  

Stokes also edged past Brendon in most test runs, although he has played more test innings than the current coach and has a less strike-rate than his teacher.

Glances at his approach while opening the innings for England during the fourth inning of the third test where he batted with a strike rate of 203.57, he can cement his place as an opener and do the same as what his coach used used to do.

However, it is highly unlikely that Stokes will open the innings again on a regular basis, but he surely try to attempt, and fans will also demand that he do so whenever a situation arises.
