CSK to retain MS Dhoni for 4 crores?

It’s been four more months and almost seven more months until the mega auction and the IPL 2025, still each day we get to hear some news related to MS Dhoni’s participation in IPL 2025.

With the latest being, Dhoni can play as an uncapped player for team CSK in next year’s event.

MS Dhoni, who led CSK to 5 titles in Indian Premier League (IPL), has left the captaincy ahead of IPL 2024 and handed it over to Ruturaj Gaikwad.

According to some reports, CSK could retain Dhoni as an uncapped player for IPL 2025. As per the rule, the player who retires from international cricket for more than five years can be retained as an uncapped player. This rule was scrapped in 2021 though, but BCCI is now considering bringing back the rule.

A player who comes under the uncapped rule can be retained at a value of 4 crore rupees. MSD, who was retained at rupees 12 crores in 2022, may get 8 crores less this time, if the franchise chooses to go with the uncapped policy, there is no official announcement of the rule being in force again or Dhoni to play as an uncapped player though, and it is considered as all rumors as of now.

Kasi Viswanathan, the CEO of CSK, has also denied any claims related to the uncapped rule.

“I’ve no idea about it. We’ve not requested for it. They (the BCCI) have themselves told us that the ‘uncapped player rule’ may be kept, that’s all. They (the BCCI) haven’t announced anything as yet. The rules and regulations will be announced by the BCCI,” CSK’s CEO told the Times of India.
