USA Cricket Breaks Silence After ICC Suspension

ICC Suspends USA Cricket

USA Cricket (USAC) has issued an official statement following its suspension by the International Cricket Council (ICC), calling it “one of the most difficult moments” in the organization’s history. The board acknowledged the uncertainty and disappointment caused to players, volunteers, and supporters, while emphasizing that the decisions taken were necessary to safeguard the future of cricket in the United States. So let’s have a look at ICC Suspends USA Cricket.

The ICC suspended USA Cricket last month after a comprehensive review of its governance and operations, citing “repeated and continued breaches” of membership obligations under its constitution. USAC had been placed on notice during the ICC’s 2024 Annual General Meeting, with 12 months given to implement governance reforms, conduct free and fair elections, and address operational concerns. Progress was deemed insufficient.

National Teams to Continue Participation

Despite the suspension, the ICC confirmed that the U.S. national teams would continue to participate in ICC events, including preparations for cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. A Normalization Committee appointed by the ICC will temporarily oversee USA Cricket to ensure smooth operations and compliance.

USAC Statement on Suspension

In its official statement, USAC stressed that the suspension should not be seen as dysfunction. “The recent suspension of USA Cricket by the International Cricket Council has been one of the most difficult moments in our history,” it read. “Yet this moment must not be mistaken for dysfunction. It is the result of difficult but necessary decisions taken to protect the game, the organisation, and the future of cricket in the United States.”

Bankruptcy and Commercial Dispute with ACE

The crisis deepened after USAC filed for bankruptcy on October 1, describing it as a financial restructuring necessary to protect the organisation’s future. Earlier, USAC terminated its 50-year commercial agreement with American Cricket Enterprise (ACE), the parent company of Major League Cricket (MLC). USAC alleged ACE had overstepped its authority, interfering in player selections, displacing home-grown talent, and attempting to control governance and operations.

ACE strongly refuted the allegations, blaming USAC’s board for mismanagement and claiming that their actions led directly to the ICC suspension. Both sides remain in dispute, with ongoing legal and operational challenges.

Path Forward for USA Cricket

USAC reaffirmed its commitment to transparent elections and governance reforms as directed by the ICC. The board expressed optimism that American cricket can emerge “stronger, fairer, and more inclusive.” With ICC oversight, USA Cricket’s reinstatement will depend on demonstrable improvements in governance and adherence to international standards, ensuring that cricket in the U.S. continues to grow despite recent setbacks.
