Italy after defeating Scotland in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 India & Sri Lanka Europe Regional Final, have confirmed themselves a spot in the upcoming T20 World Cup. What lies ahead is a legacy defining tournament for the Italian side or the Azzuri. Here’s how Italy is building a cricket legacy. 

How Italy did the Impossible?

Italy after winning the Europe Regional Final which was the final match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Qualification, have etched their name in the history of the sport. The team led by the former Australian player Joe Burns who has 4 centuries to his name, has certainly been a strong turn-around for the team. 

Alongside Burns, their head coach John Davidson, the former Canadian players with his Scottish and Irish assistants Dougie Brown and Kevin O’Brien, have been managing the team very well though the Qualifications. 

What lies ahead for them is unknown, but with their entry in a top-tier tournament like the ICC T20 Men;s World Cup, they are set to inspire the younger generation of the Azzuri to get into the world of cricket and hopefully seek a better future in the sport.

An Overview of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026

The tournament is set in India and Sri Lanka with about 20 teams to participate in the tournament, from those 20 spots, 15 spots have been confirmed, with another 5 spots qualifiers running for the regions which include Africa and Asia and East-Asia Pacific. 

The teams who have qualified for the tournament are India, England, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, USA, and West Indies.

ICC aims to get the sport to a broader region of the world, with more nations coming in for the participation, Cricket is on the cusp of rising ahead with already having forged a global audience, the T20 format is helping the sport to grow for the greater good.
