Arun Dhumal on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli ODI future
Arun Dhumal Backs ‘Ro-Ko’ Duo To Continue In ODIs
Indian Premier League (IPL) Chairman Arun Dhumal has backed Indian cricket icons Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, asserting that the two modern-day greats are not done yet in the 50-over format. Dhumal hailed Team India’s strong bench strength, spotlighting 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s remarkable rise, but emphasized that Kohli and Rohit still have a lot to contribute to Indian cricket. So let’s look at Arun Dhumal on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli ODI future.
He praised the duo for their class, conviction, and work ethic, highlighting Rohit’s stunning batting performances during the recently concluded ODI series against Australia, where he was named Player of the Series.
Dhumal: “Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Are Here To Stay”
Speaking exclusively to ANI, Arun Dhumal lauded the Indian stalwarts’ continued excellence, saying they remain vital to India’s plans for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.
“We’ve been talking about this bench strength of the Indian team for a long, long time. But look at this team — a 14-year-old wonder, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, is knocking at the door. And then you have these greats like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who people think are going, but they are not going. They are here to stay,” Dhumal said.
He further added,
“The way Rohit has shown his class in this ODI series — coming in as Player of the Match in the final and then Player of the Series — shows the kind of conviction and hard work they carry. They have given their lives to Indian cricket, and my best wishes to both of them.”
Rohit Sharma’s Redemption Against Australia
The ODI series against Australia turned out to be a testament to Rohit Sharma’s grit and determination. After modest scores in the first two games, the Indian skipper unleashed his trademark brilliance in the third ODI, smashing an unbeaten 121 off 125 balls during India’s successful 237-run chase.
His performances — from a rusty single-digit score in Perth to a fighting 73 at Adelaide and then a match-winning century in Sydney — underscored why he remains one of the most impactful batters in world cricket.
Rohit Sharma Becomes No. 1 ODI Batter
Following his heroics against Australia, Rohit Sharma reached a new career milestone by becoming the No. 1-ranked ODI batter in the ICC Men’s ODI Rankings for the first time in his illustrious career.
The 38-year-old surpassed Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran and India teammate Shubman Gill, climbing to the top spot thanks to his stellar unbeaten century in Sydney. Rohit has now held a place inside the top 10 ODI rankings for over a decade, reaffirming his consistency and class.
Kohli’s Rock-Solid Support
While Rohit dominated headlines, Virat Kohli played a crucial supporting role throughout the series, particularly in the final ODI, where his 74 off 92 balls* anchored India’s chase. Kohli’s calm presence and ability to build partnerships once again proved vital, silencing critics who questioned his ODI form.
