But since IPL 2021 was unexpectedly canceled, several players and their individual boards have expressed worries about the 2nd phase. The BCCI anticipated the players to come in because the competition was carefully planned soon before the T20 World Cup, and both tournaments were hosted by the UAE.

The concept was that the boards would not be hesitant to send their players to the high-profile event because it would provide them with valuable practice. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), which had earlier expressed reservations about sending their players to the 2nd leg, has now consented. In fact, their visit to Bangladesh, which had been slated to coincide with the IPL, has been rescheduled.
