CPL 2022: Faf du Plessis stars as Saint Lucia Kings register their second win of tournament

Faf du Plessis’s brilliant 35-ball 60 helped the Saint Lucia Kings register their second win in the 2022 edition of Caribbean Premier League.

After putting 161 on board in 20 overs, Lucia Kings’ bowlers did the remaining work to hand their side a much needed 61-run win to keep their CPL 2022 hopes alive.

St Lucia Kings Vs St Kitts match Highlights:

Invited to bat, Lucia Kings Johnson Charles and FAF Du Plessis put on an explosive opening partnership, scoring 61 runs in the Power Play.

Faf du Plessis, the captain, scored 60 runs off just 35 balls to lead the Kings, who required a strong performance to win, off to a fast start. Johnson Charles, who was in good form, gave the pair some help as they racked up 86 runs for the first wicket. However, after Charles was dismissed, the Kings’ innings started to falter.

They frequently lost wickets in groups, and when they lost their seventh wicket at 124 with 33 balls still left to play, it appeared as though the Kings might not last the entire number of overs. The Kings were able to record a par score of 161, though, thanks to some clutch striking from Matthew Forde.

In reply, the Patriots innings were in serious trouble as Matthew Forde ripped through the top three in the powerplay itself. Darren Bravo tried to open his arms when at 20 got caught by Tim David. And the Patriots then only managed to add more 34 and lost their remaining six batters to lost the game by 61-run margin.

After the win, Saint Lucia Kings moved to third position on the points table with 4 points. While St Kitts and Nevis Patriots were just behind Kings at fourth spot, but with a net run-rate in minus, the major area of concern for them for the remaining matches.
