Moody makes his mark
It was a Renegades’ debut to remember for David Moody, who made his first appearance for the franchise
The West Australian fast, who had recently moved from Hobart, made an instant impression against his former team by dismissing D’Arcy Short with his second delivery of the match. The 27-year-old would next smash through Caleb Jewell with an incredible seed to take out off stump before Jake Fraser-McGurk made a sensational grab on the boundary to give him his third wicket. In his outstanding debut, Moody would end with 3-16 from four overs, including 16 dot balls and a fast speed paired with great execution.
In a thrilling low-scoring match, the Hurricanes came out on top, in Hobart, successfully defending their low score to earn a great win.
The Renegades lost by 8 runs, just missing out on victory. Sutherland gave it his all, scoring 40 runs, but he was unable to secure the victory due to his teammates’ lack of support and his own error of judgement, which resulted in his expulsion. The Renegades tried their hardest, but they were unable to win four straight games.
Meredith recorded outstanding figures of 3/12 in the end, and Shadab also claimed 3 wickets. Dooley and Paris also contributed with two wickets each. Ellis, the captain, bowled the difficult overs at the end and was rather pricey, but strong bowling from others gave them the victory.
Stunning catch by Jake Fraser-McGurk
Everyone assumed it was a skied hook shot for six, but Fraser-McGurk had other ideas.
He caught the ball in midair and threw it up before his feet left the boundary, perfectly judging the trajectory of the ball. He then grabbed the ball once he had returned to inside the boundary rope.
It was a breathtaking catch from a player who is beginning to establish himself as one of the most captivating fielders in all of cricket.
Tough fight in the Innings: 20 wickets in 38 overs
At Blund stone Arena, the pitch provided enough support for the bowlers, as wickets from both teams fell regularly. Due to the nature of the game, ball dominance over bat is uncommon in T20 cricket, yet it happened in Hobart. While the Renegades were at 8-77 before Will Sutherland almost pulled off a miracle, the Hurricanes were bowled out for 122 and were at one point 8 for 96 runs in the game.
At 8-77, the Renegades were staring down
The Hurricanes appeared to be finishing up their work and departing for an early Christmas, but Sutherland had other ideas.
In order to keep the Renegades in the game and keep the strike going as they tried hard. But the all-rounder and Mujeeb Ur Rahman contributed 22 runs for the ninth wicket.
It was debutant David Moody to accomplish the seemingly impossible and progress the Renegades after Mujeeb left, and they almost succeeded.
However, it was not to be, as the all-rounder holed out to long off, seeing the Hurricanes breathe a big sigh of relief. While it wasn’t to be, the Renegades will be proud of their No. 12’s efforts, who finished on 40 off 28 balls.
