Ben Stokes father, Ged Stokes, passed away on Tuesday after his hard-fought battle with brain cancer. The 29-year-old all-rounder penned down an emotional message on his Instagram account while honoring his late father. Ben Stokes uploaded a photo of his father with a set of heartwarming words expressing his feeling towards his father. “In different places now me and you Ged but knowing you’ll always have this smile on your face make’s me smile every time I think of you,” Stokes captioned the post with multiple heart emoticons.

RR Pay Their Tribute To Ged Stokes

Ben Stokes’ Indian Premier League (IPL) team also honored Ged Stokes in their social media accounts. “RIP Ged Stokes. One of the greatest characters in our special cricket family. We’re with you Ben. Strength to you and your family,” Rajasthan Royals official account tweeted.

The 2019 World Cup winning all-rounder missed a large portion of England’s summer Test series against Pakistan to be with his ill father. Ben Stokes, the number one Test all-rounder, is in South Africa while serving his national team. England inflicted a white-wash over South Africa in their 3-match T20I series.

However, England’s tour of South Africa got suspended due to the rise of Coronavirus cases in the country. The decision came after Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) mutually agreed to cancel the on-going tournament. ECB released the following statement on their Twitter account on Tuesday.
