BCCI Nominates Rohit Sharma For Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna

Rohit Sharma Has Set New Benchmarks As A Batsman:

Rohit Sharma has been nominated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the prestigious 2020 Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award. While Ishant Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Deepthi Sharma, with the consideration period from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2019, the Government of the Indian Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has obtained invitations to the respective awards for them.

Rohit Sharma, Team India’s white-ball vice-captain, is a brilliant player. The stylish opener became the first to score five ODI centuries in one edition of the World Cup to be called the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year for 2019. He is also the first batsman to score four T20I centuries and the first player to take part as an opener of the Test for two centuries.

Shikhar Dhawan is the world’s only batman who has won two golden bats for most runs in the ICC Champions Trophy and holds a record for the fastest test century on the debut. He is also the first Indian batsman to reach 2,000 and 3,000 ODI and second-fastest Indians, scoring 4,000 and 5,000 ODI runs.

Ishant Sharma, the youngest Indian to play all the three-game formats, led the Indian pace bowling attack and has the Indian pacer outside Asia record for too many wickets.

Deepti Sharma, a top-class all-rounder, and the only Indian player to take six WODI wickets are recorded with the highest single WODI score from an Indian player.

BCCI Members Opinion On Nominated Players:

“Before naming the candidates we reviewed a lot of data and considered different parameters. Rohit Sharma has set new expectations and obtained scores in shorter formats in the game, which people felt were not possible. We think that he is deserving of his dedication, actions, loyalty, and leadership skills to receive the prestigious Khel Ratna award.“

“Ishant Sharma is the leader of the test community and his contribution as the No. 1 Test side was crucial in the long run by the Indian team. Fast bowlers are vulnerable to injuries and Ishant was relatively involved, but he fought hard every time to return to the park. Shikhar always scored at the top and made good results in the ICC competitions. Deepti is a genuine all-rounder and has played an important part in the squad.” said BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.

“There is no greater honor than your country and your hard work is respected as nominated for national awards. Rohit Sharma not only raised the bar for his individual achievements in the last five years but also led the Indian team in the absence of Virat Kohli with great distinction. India was renowned to win the Asia Cup in the UAE, the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka, and have recorded numerous victories in bilateral series.”

“Rohit is an ideal team-mate and a youth mentor. He deserves the country’s greatest sporting honor. Ishant Sharma is a warhorse as Shikhar Dhawan lifts the dignity of the squad with his courageous approach. Deepti Sharma contributed a lot to the successful demonstration of the Indian team at big-ticket events,” said Honorary Secretary, BCCI Jay Shaw

“This is an immense honor to receive a national award. It’s a product of your success on the ground and your character. Cricketers from India showed the competitive spirit on the field and helped the country combat the coronavirus. They took part in awareness drives, donated money and food to help funds and charities, as well as via social media to their fans.”

“Virat Kohli was the last Indian cricketer to win the Khel Ratna; I hope Rohit Sharma wins this top award as he deserves. The talent of Ishant Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan has been justified and delivered to their fans. Deepti Sharma has both contributed and is worthy of her nomination. For all the listed cricketers, I give my best wishes,”- honorary treasurer of BCCI Arun Singh Dhumal.
